PRIDE LIFE ISSUE 29
Welcome to the first issue of Pride Life after the pandemic.
It’s been a long time coming and the LGBTQ+ community has particularly suffered during the lock down with the closure of hospitality venues nationwide, places which provide a safe place for us to be who we are.
Now at last, and right in time for the Pride month of June, the bars of London’s Soho, Brighton’s Kemp Town, and Manchester’s Canal Street and all the gaybourhoods of the UK are buzzing again and there’s a new community spirit of freedom in the air. Let’s face it, as Joni Mitchell sang, said “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” Welcome back. Support the community. Enjoy the freedom
At the time of writing we’ve yet to know how and when international travel restrictions will be relaxed. That doesn’t mean we can’t take a well-deserved break and we’ve compiled a list of some of the best and welcoming places in the UK for a gay staycation. There are a couple there which might surprise you.
Of course, the Lockdown meant that Prides across the UK were cancelled or postponed last year, and sadly many are still not taking place in 2021. But you can’t keep a good Pride down, and there are still some Prides taking places in real-life or virtually. Check out our listings, although bear in mind that in these times things may change.
One Pride which is definitely going ahead is World Pride which, together with the gay EuroGames, is happening in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, and in Malmö in Sweden, in August. It’s going to be the gay party highlight of the year.
In Pride month, have fun. Stay safe. Stay proud. And, in the words of our cover star, Daniel Lismore, Be Yourself.
